The goal of this page is to help you start a blog in 7 days.

This section is totally inspired by a book I read called “Crush It” by a guy named Gary Vaynerchuk.

This guy is a regular ol’ Joe like you and I that found a way to turn his passion for wine tasting into a multimillion dollar business.

I was reading it on the way to and from San Diego, CA (which I absolutely love by the way) and lets just say that after reading 3/4 of the book, my 6th sense for living a life of freedom using the power of the internet, got kicked into overdrive.

That’s after only reading 3/4′s of the book people!

Well here I am. My passion is learning to making a living off the internet. I love to blog and teach people how to find their passion. Theirs nothing like waking up every morning happy because your doing what you want to do. Compared to having a 401k and a pension plan, it KICKS BUTT!

Now lets get started on getting you a blog. Here are some helpful posts on getting started with blogging. They may answer some questions you may have about blogging and creating a successful online business.

Start a blog in 7 days step 1: Do Your Research

start a blog in 7 daysThis is step 1 because it is the most important. Yes it is pretty easy to setup a website but it is even easier to spend countless hours setting up a site just for it to become an epic fail. I know because I’ve done this.

There are plenty of paid products that can get you the right keyword information but the one I know and use is absolutely free. It’s the Google Keyword Tool.

I feel this is best simply because this is the basis for where all keyword tools get their information from. I just believe in going to the source.

Your looking for keywords that have the most searches. You want to find what people are searching for so that you can STEAL that traffic from Google for free.

Line this up with your passion niche and you may have a gold mine website.

Start a blog in 7 days Step 2: Getting a GOOD hosting company

start a blog in 7 daysWith hundreds; maybe thousands of hosting companies, a newbie or even experienced bloggers may get overwhelmed with trying to find the best place to host a site. Well I’m here to tell you to learn from my trial and error.

When I first started out, I used a reseller site (same company, different name) that used the GoDaddy interface. At first I was cool with it because that was all I knew but eventually I got tired of the confusion of trying to do simple things like installing wordpress.

I came across Hostgator. After switching over, I couldn’t be more happy. I’ve now been with them a little over a year and I’m never changing hosting companies.

Funny thing before end this topic, my buddy was with Godaddy. When I kept bragging about how great Hostgator was with my hosting, he ended up switching and has never looked back.

**UPDATE** As of Dec. 26th, 2011, iBlog4Dollars.com will no longer support GoDaddy in any way, shape or fashion. Reports came out that Godaddy in some way, supports the OFFICIAL end of freedom of speech on the internet with the passing of SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act). Read more on how 72000 customers left GoDaddy because of their statement.

start a blog in 7 daysThere are a number of companies that you can get your domain name from. I at one time, was using a company that was selling domains for GoDaddy and I must say, their prices were too high and they had poor customer service.

It is best to keep everything in one place. Hostgator just recently starting selling domain names. Being that they have pretty good hosting, I would definitely trust them as a domain registrar.

Start a blog in 7 days Step 4: Pick a good design for your blog

start a blog in 7 daysPicking the right theme when you start a blog depends a lot on your personality and how you want your visitors to feel when they come to your site. Colors play a big role and visitor response.

The theme that powers iBlog4Dollars.com is called the profits theme and I now use it for ALL of my blogs. I don’t want to go into too much detail about it because this little post can turn into a full page but if you want to know more on this theme, check out my full featured and very informative OptimizePress Review.

Start a blog in 7 days Step 5: Build a list

start a blog in 7 daysThis is pretty much the stepping stone to making money online. People like your site, they sign up to your list and you send them content on top of content and market products for them to purchase in between.

Now I’ve tried a few and overall, my favorite is aWeber (1st month is only a $1). Aweber is best for setting up followups to go out to your list over time. They also have the best custom web form system known to the internet world. Even a 5 year old could create an attention getting web-form.

There are other’s but as far as I know, most don’t allow unlimited messaging like aweber. This makes you scared to pull the trigger on emailing because you could waste 500 emails (1 email blast) and not make one dime. Those emails making no money add up fast. Basically you want to company that has a proven track record when it comes to email marketing.

One thing I noticed is all the big guys, when you look at the bottom of their emails, you see aWeber.

Start a blog in 7 days Step 6: Driving traffic

start a blog in 7 days

No matter how much work you put in when you start a blog, if you don’t get traffic, no one will see it and you won’t make any money.

Getting traffic can be done a few ways that need to be done consistently in order to ensure a constant stream of good traffic.

Here are some quick ideas:

  1. Provide high quality content on a regular basis.
  2. Comment regularly on other related blogs (in your niche or similar niches)
  3. Participate in relevant forums and link back to your site in your signature.
  4. Use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter
  5. Guest post on other related blogs.

I don’t have any products that I use for driving traffic as of right now but when I get one that I trust with my companies, I will be sure to put it on here.

Start a blog in 7 days Step 7: Time to make some money

start a blog in 7 daysOk we’ve made it to thee most talked about part of internet marketing. How the heck to make some money. In a nutshell, you can make money 3 main ways. I’m breaking everyway of making money online down to 3. Make sure you get this.

Create products and market them: Marketing your own products is a great way to make money because your making money off of something that you came up with. When people know you, they will usually buy from you.

Affiliate Marketing: This is marketing other people’s products that are relevant to your niche. There are affiliates who make a living off of doing this; A lot of them. You can market products using your email list, PPC ads, social networking sites and by very next point I’m bringing to you….

Advertising: You can advertise on your very own blog. If you get a lot of traffic, people will pay you to have their ads on your site. You can also put ads for affiliate products. I once made $292 in one day using this method; and that was in the beginning of me doing it.

You can also do Google Adsense which is talked about in many circles as a great way to make money online, but you have to get tons of traffic to make anything.

Don’t focus too much on making money in the beginning. You want to focus on creating great content that will last and keep subscribers coming. This is how you build an authority site that will stand the test of time.

Before I Go….

I remember when I first decided to start a blog, I was going from site to site looking for information on how to start blogging and making money. As I’m sure you’ve noticed, most are trying to shove product after product down your throat which is ultimately more money in their pockets.

When I started iBlog4Dollars, my goal was to bring good quality information to people wanting to learn how to blog 4 dollars. Of course I’m going to make money from it or I wouldn’t be living up to the name but besides that, I want people to be happy like I am.

I’m also building an authority blog that will be a top destination for internet marketers; both newbie and seasoned. Recently, I added iWorks which is a site for entrepreneurs seeking and providing jobs. That’s the tagline but if you ever need a specific job done  for you blog or provide a specific service, feel free to create a post. It’s free for the time being as a way to say thank you to my viewers.

I want you to see that there is space for you to create a place for your passion and drive traffic to it and make money in the long run.

There is one thing that must take place before anything happens. I can’t promise that you WILL succeed but I can promise that you WONT if you DONT take action. You have the knowledge right in front of you. It’s your job to be a super sponge and absorb as much as possible and them TAKE MASSIVE ACTION!

I wish you the best my friend

Full Disclosure: Some of the links on this page are affiliate links. This means that I get a commission if you purchase those products or use the service. I’m not someone who recommends something just to make money. EVERY product/service I recommend here are things that I use (or have used) and Trust, and I recommend them because I know they can help you grow your online business and help you start a blog. Besides, I’m not making that much if you sign up. You won’t see me running naked across the field at a Red Sox baseball game screaming “I got it” with an affiliate check in my hand. ;-)

I wrote a book called "The Definition of Success and Why Yours Is Wrong" that got well over 3000 downloads in the first couple months (that's freakin' awesome). I'm always looking for new ways to crush it online and love to connect with like minded people.

I now go by Dennis the Blogging Menace (after Google Panda killed SEO) and you can find me on Twitter, Facebook and Google+
