Email Marketing: Aweber vs iContact… Which Should I Use?

Aweber or iContact

If someone would have told me a few years ago that you could make in one email what most people make in a month, I would have politely showed them the door and told them to never show their face around my home again.

It is true that internet marketers everywhere are cashing in on this gold mine while it’s hot. Crazy thing is, we haven’t even peaked and I don’t think were getting close to peaking.

Did You Know This?

Email marketing is a very important part of making money online. It’s one of the few things you control online when it comes to making money. You send out emails when you want about what you want to whoever you want.

If you’ve provided good content to your subscribers and they feel like they know and like you, chances are, you’re going to make some sells and a lot of them (in no way is this a guarantee)

Since email marketing is so important, you want to make sure you have a reliable and efficient service to send out your emails.

That’s why I decided to write this post to break what I like about the service I use and the ones I’ve either used or inquired about in the past.

I want to do something different and LET YOU KNOW that I’m saving the best for last. If you want to skip over all the rest and see exactly what I use, be my guest.

Lets start with iContact

I first started using iContact early 2011. I wanted to have a way to keep my follow ups going out but also not lose those subscribers because of the blasts I was sending out marketing products. The one thing I liked about iContact is that it allows you to upload a list (CSV) of contacts and not require them to confirm their subscription.

iContact is very user-friendly when it comes to setting up broadcast emails but as for the follow ups, I have not tried due to me not needing to use it. Setting up an email messages is simplified by the one of a kind MessageBuilder and MessageCoder software that is standard with iContant.

Using icontact for email marketing

The only thing that iContact has that made me cancel my paid subscription is that they have a cap on how many emails you can send per month. They back this up by saying that it’s a huge factor in their high deliverability percentage (calculation for determining if emails will be delivered to subscribers).

Depending on your subscription price, you’ll get a set number of emails that can be sent out per month. Once you pass that set amount, you have to pay per message…

iContact is a great service and as of right now, I use their free edition. I use this for building email lists on sites that I’m not putting too much focus on. This is a great service for those that are starting out. They allow you up to 500 subscribers and 2,000 messages per month. These limitations are what drove me to using my current service….

Aweber

This service is used by 90% of internet marketers simply because their the best. Their user interface takes some getting use to, just as anything worth learning does, but once you learn it, it’s almost effortless.

Their followup message system is extremely easy to use being that it’s drag and drop. This allows me to create multiple messages and line them up by when I want them to go out. Another part of their followup service that I love is, say your create 3 messages and you want the 2nd one to go out 3 days after the first, and the 3rd to go out 4 days after the 2nd. In aWeber, it’s just that. 3 days on one message and on the next message, you put 4 days.  iContact doesn’t do this is. You mentally have to be a counting genius if your planning on having a good amount of followup messages. iContact’s setting will 3 days for the 2nd message and 7 days for 3rd.

I applaud iContact for trying to bring the mathematical genius out of me, but I’d rather focus on creating great content and not counting.

Aweber best for email marketing

Besides them having an amazing way to set up your followup messages, they have THEE best web-form setup system in the business. It is thee best with more customization options than you and I can handle.

aweber webforms

Web-form design is extremely important as this is what subscribers are putting their information in. You want it to be very welcoming to them. After using aWeber, I tried designing a web-form in iContact and was very disappointed. They are as basic as basic gets. I vowed to never create a web-form with iContact again.

I know all this may sound a bit overwhelming but don’t sweat my friend. Aweber knows this and that’s why they have what seems to be, a university for learning to harness the power of their service’ and of course it’s free! I’ve only named a few of the features they have because these are the one’s I use.

Aweber holds webinars and has a forum in which the customer service techs (who are familiar with email marketing themselves and not just some hired virtual assistants) are very knowledgeable and active, answering questions and coming up with solutions to problems. You simply post the problem you’re having with your service, and they’ll respond back to you. Either that or you can give them call to handle things 1 on 1.

When Your Ready To Try One, Guess What?

Both these services know that making the decision of which will manage your email marketing is crucial. It could be the life or death of your email marketing revenue for your business or brand. I just decided to go with the one most internet marketers use and ended up liking them. If you would like to try either of these services, keep in mind that they both offer a trial offer so you can try them out.

aWeber has the first month for only $1

iContact has the Free Edition

My advise is to try them out and see which one fits you and your business.

  • About Me…

Hi my name is Dennis Marshall (that's me) and I'm a full time blogger/affiliate marketer/internet marketer. I dibble and dabble in real estate also but my main focus is online. I wrote a book called "The Definition of Success and Why Yours Is Wrong" that got well over 3000 downloads in the first couple months (that's freakin' awesome). I'm always looking for new ways to crush it online and love to connect with like minded people.

I now go by Dennis the Blogging Menace (after Google Panda killed SEO) and you can find me on Twitter, Facebook and Google+
